It was Mac McAnally who first introduced Peter Mayer to a Jarrell Guitar. For the last 20 years, or more, Mac and Peter have been friends, and playing together with Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band. Mac sent email saying, Feb.8, 2010. "Peter is a wonderful player/writer/singer/person who would make any instrument maker proud to be associated." As this year has progress, both Peter and Mac have been "Under The Big Top" as the Jimmy Buffett 2010 summer tour has crisscrossed the U.S., I have come to understand what Mac was talking about. Peter Mayer is a great guitarist, an original guitarist, and an artist who has a past that not only earns him a set in the circle of pros, but after listening to cuts from his latest CD, "GoodBye Hello ", I see that he has the ability to explode into a whole new musical event of his own. Great work Peter ! Congratulations on the summer tour, the CD, and we wish you ALL THE BEST ! Phillip Jarrell

Here are some conversations with Peter, by email.

Feb.10, 2010 Peter says:

" Thanks for getting in touch. Mac, good friend for a long time was kind enough to turn me on to your instruments. I've really enjoyed the last 3 or 4 days with the JZH 1x (spruce and purpleheart wood). Great workmanship and design. I played it on the gig we did with Jimmy Buffett down in Miami and it has a fat tone that rocks. Sustain is great, the pitch accuracy is excellent as well, and being a Martin Slot Head acoustic player like Mac, I really enjoy the fatter neck. Doug Breidenbach our guitar tech, who has worked with Steven Stills and a tons of others was commenting on the nice work you've done. I appreciate the diagram you sent of the 3 way switches. I've been getting to know their tone, but it's nice to know what they're doing in the process. I spend a lot of time on the strat, so it's been nice to have that split mode that is single coil-ish. I play through a Koch amp and the clean and distorted tones are beautiful. With subtle changes in the balance between the pickups you can get a million interesting sounds, and what's best, .......the guitar makes you want to write and play music. That's a high calling. I went ahead and put .011-.048 strings on mine and find that it still feels so playable. I tend to like a bit more resistance and was finding that I was fretting out a bunch with the lighter strings. I'll take a few photos and along the way try to send you something when I record with it.
Many thanks for your excellent work.
Peter Mayer"

Update 8/20/2010 Peter says:

The guitar has been a great addition to the show, and it is completely different than any of of my other instruments. I'm enjoying the coil taps in that I often use them for Rhythm to solo switches, bringing in the full humbuckers for more sustain and volume.

8/.20/2010 Phillip says:
I was wondering if anybody raised the action or if you are able to play the slide with the bridge at the same height it was when we shipped it ?

8/21/2010 Peter says:
I tend to play with fairly heavy strings, not ridiculous, but 11-54 I think it is. This helps a lot, and yes, I believe I raised the action a bit. I found with the way the Jarrell neck is built, that it didn't mess with the easy action at all. I still find it to be extremely playable, and easy to stretch as far as I need to. I have to experiment a bit with the low end, I may have gone a bit high on that. I learned from Jacky Pearson, a wonderful player, that with the right touch you can play slide on almost anything.
